The Monsoons have arrived as they do every year and every season we have to prepare our yards in order to sustain minimal damage. Preparation is the key and with a few helpful tips from Moon Valley Nursery you can enjoy the spectacular light show and rainfall without being concerned about your yard.

Before a Monsoon:

  • Survey your yard to make sure hoses are rolled up and garden tools are put away
  • Pick up any debris- Monsoon winds can reach up to 60 mph so debris that is blown at this speed can cause personal and property damage
  • Trim loose branches- Loose branches can easily be snapped off
  • Stake Trees- The most common damage to a yard during a Monsoon is fallen trees. Trees that are young or vulnerable should be staked up. For a step by step guide on how to stake up a tree see our blog below entitled "Understanding the Monsoon"
Even with the best preparation some damage may still occur. Most of this damage is due to high winds.

After a Monsoon:

  • Survey your yard to see what kind of damage the storm left , if any
  • Pick up any debris or garbage the storm may have blown onto your property. Sweep off dust from carport or patio
  • If any trees have blown over, Call Moon Valley Nursery immediately at 602-938-6666. Trees that have fallen are not only unsightly, but also dangerous. We will refer you to a tree removal service. For more information see our blog below entitled "Understanding the Monsoons".
