Fight Crime in your Neighborhood!

A common expression from Moon Valley Nursery customers when they walk through our doors is that they cannot believe how large our trees are! Moon Valley Nursery is a grower direct nursery ‘from our farms to your yard’. One of the benefits of buying from a grower direct nursery is how large, vibrant and healthy our trees are.

It is reported that in addition to being pleasant to the eye, large trees can actually help you fight crime in your neighborhood.

A study by the U.S. Forest Service has found that less crime occurs in neighborhoods with big trees in their yards and on the streets. In contrast the study showed that more crime was committed or attempted at homes and neighborhoods with smaller trees.

Geoffrey Donavan from the U.S. Forest Service Department says “that large trees may be a signal to crooks that a neighborhood is well cared for, making it more likely criminals will be caught”. He adds that small trees may aid criminals by providing hiding places for criminals and obstructing views.

By purchasing large, healthy trees at any Moon Valley Nursery you not only beautify your surroundings, but you also add one more layer of protection against crime. Contact any Moon Valley Nursery staff member and they will be happy to guide you to the best tree selection for your yard.

Doing your part to Sustain the Planet

                                                            Sustainability

Sustainability: A product that is able to be sustained for an indefinite period without damaging the environment, or without depleting a resource. A product that is renewable causes no damage to its surroundings.

There is no shortage in the application of the word ‘sustainability’. It has been used to describe housing, clothing, cosmetics, and automobiles. However, in its purest sense sustainability can be found at any Moon Valley Nursery in the form of the thousands of trees that we offer.

To make a positive impact towards the environment consumers need to plant trees on their property. Trees are the single most important organic material that will sustain this planet.

The Amazing Tree

Trees are vital for the sustainability of our planet.

Trees are responsible for:
• Absorbing CO2 and other dangerous gasses and, in turn, replenish the atmosphere with oxygen.
• Producing enough oxygen on each acre for 18 people every day.
• Absorbing enough CO2 on each acre, so that over a year's time this would equal the amount you would produce when you drive your car 26,000 miles

Moon Valley Nursery has on staff on hand that will guide you towards the perfect tree for your yard that will contribute to sustaining our planet.

How to Select a Perfect Tree for Your Yard

Big….Healthy…Beautiful…and Affordable……

Four steps to follow when picking out a tree

Fall marks the beginning of one of the most prolific planting seasons in the southwest. The weather is ideal for planting and the selections are abundant. Trees are one of the most popular items to plant this fall. The four steps to follow when picking out a tree are:
• Big
• Healthy
• Beautiful
• Affordable

Look for Big Trees

The size of a tree tells much about how the nursery has cared for your tree. The growth process not only requires the right amount of water and conditions, but also nutrition. Trees are a living organism and just like us they require good soil and nutrition to grow strong, healthy and big.

A common observation made by customers that stop into Moon Valley Nursery is how unbelievably large our trees are. By selecting a tree that already has good size to it, you are able to enjoy a large canopy of shade from the moment you plant it in your yard.

Healthy leaves, growth and branch structure

Healthy trees can be spotted a mile away. They have a look of well-being with good form. Look for leaves that are appropriately colored for the season and are insect and disease free. Undersized, yellow leaves that prematurely drop are obvious signs of poor health.

Growth is an essential requirement for a healthy tree. Trees that express new extensions of terminal buds are exhibiting signs of vigor.

Check branches for breakage and/or for bark damage. Especially on the tree trunk any damage to the bark can become an easy path for disease and eventual decay.

Beautiful and pleasing to the eye

A tree that has a wide umbrella canopy, healthy leaves and sturdy branch structure is pleasing to the eye and will easily become the focal point of your landscape. Moon Valley Nursery is a grower direct nursery that specializes in growing trees that are native to the southwest. Our trees are naturally acclimated and will ease into your yard beautifully.
