Know your Soil: Your plants are what they eat. The soil surrounding your plants and trees provide nutrients. A healthy pH is vital to the health of your trees and plants. A near-neutral or slightly acidic soil is generally considered ideal for most plants. Most soils in the southwest according to The Master Gardner Guide are alkaline and have a pH of between 7 and 8.5.
